Homemade Acne Treatments For Clear Skin

At least seventeen million people currently suffer from acne. The unsightly pimples and blemishes can affect any area of the body but are most embarrassing on the face. Acne pimples occur because the pores of the skin become blocked with dead skin cells, bacteria and oil called sebum. Hormonal changes, poor diet and certain medications can cause or exacerbate the problem of acne.

Not only is acne very embarrassing, it can seriously damage an individual’s self image.  Treatment is necessary for both physical and psychologically well being.

People with severe cases of this skin disease are often prepared to pay quite a significant amount of money for laser acne treatments, dermabrasion or chemical peels in the endeavor to rectify the problem. Sometime these treatments are warranted.

But perhaps you should try a few homemade acne treatments before you turn to topical medications, prescription drugs or surgical treatments.

Homemade Acne Treatment Begins With Your Diet

You probably already know this, but diet definitely affects your skin.People who eat an excess of sugary or fatty processed foods are more likely to have acne. Even if you pay for professional treatment, you need to eat well to get the best results.

Therefore the first step to healthy skin is to be sure your diet is working for you instead of against you.  Include more fresh whole foods such as fruit, vegetables and whole grains and less junk.

You should also stay well hydrated.  Drink at least  eight glasses of water per day in order to help flush the toxins out of your system. Meanwhile you might wish to try some topical homemade acne treatments to see if they help.

Homemade Facials

Though the concept of putting food on your face in the bid to get rid of acne may seem ridiculous, many edible products make great homemade acne treatments. Garlic, for example, is a very effective homemade acne treatment. Garlic helps cure acne because it contains sulfur, which is a natural antibiotic with no side effects. You can squeeze the juice from a garlic clove directly onto the affected area or mix it into a mush with water before applying it with cotton wool.

The juice from lemons and tomatoes are also effective homemade acne treatments. Both of these clean excess oil from the skin, provide nutrients and are slightly acidic, whic helps  maintain a healthy skin.

Tea tree oil, honey and green tea extract are other inexpensive natural substances that can be used to help with acne. 100% tea tree oil may be a little harsh and need to be diluted before applying.

A Drying Compound

Here’s a homemade acne treatment you probablyh already have the ingredients for: rubbing alcohol and aspirin.  Simply crush an aspirin tablet until it’s a powder, then mix it with a little rubbing alcohol.  Apply the mixture to the affected area with a ball of cotton wool. The aspirin in the mixture helps reduce the inflammation quickly. The rubbing alcohol helps to cleanse the face and dry out the pimple. It’s a good antiseptic also shrinks the skin pores, which makes it harder for bacteria to enter them and cause future breakouts.

Hopefully these homemade acne treatments will be of some help.  If nothing else, you can use them if you have a breakout and don’t have a commercial product handy to treat it.
